FREE BOAT & PERSONAL WATERCRAFT SAFETY CHECK

Vessel Safety Check Decal Image
The U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offers free safety checks to boaters who wish to be sure that their boats meet all federal & state requirements. The Auxiliarists who perform these checks are qualified Vessel Safety Examiners who are trained on the latest legal requirements for boaters. The Vessel Examiners will check for all required items on board your boat or personal watercraft and if everything is present and in good working order, they will award a decal to affix to your boat/watercraft. Flotilla 10-2 Allentown has on it’s staff some of the most qualified Vessel Examiners in the Lehigh Valley area lead by Leon Lohrman-Awarded Vessel Examiner of the Year 2007!

No citations are issued and the results of the safety check are not reported to any enforcement agency, but a decal is awarded to display if the vessel has passed the examination.

An example of some of the items checked include:

• Personal Flotation Devices (life jackets)
• Registration and numbering
• Navigation lights
• Ventilation
• Fire extinguishers
• Distress signals (flares, horn, etc.)
• Battery cover and connections

All of these items are currently required by state and federal laws and, if missing or non-operating, can result in a citation if your vessel is inspected by the Coast Guard.

The Vessel Safety Check gives you a risk-free way to check that you meet the legal minimums and to potentially avoid a citation later.
